    Liverpool Carnival will see a jam-packed programme taking over Liverpool’s city streets. The Liverpool Brazilica Festival 2024 dates for the festival have not been confirmed yet, but generally the carnival will take place in Summer during the month of July.

    This week-long celebration of Brazilian culture will have numerous events that take place at indoor venues all across the city which will lead up to the main outdoor street parade and party that will take place in Williamson Square.

    The Liverpool Brazilica Festival is the UK’s one and only samba carnival! Now in its 14th year, it takes place in Liverpool every summer in July. For an entire week Liverpool is caught up in a week-long celebration of all things Brazilian!

    The Liverpool Brazilica Festival is a spectacular array of music, colour and dance that celebrates the very best parts of Brazilian culture! The sound of samba can be heard across the city and the streets come alive with a glittering samba parade featuring samba bands from all over the world.

    The Liverpool Brazilica Festival is one of the cultural highlights of the year for the city and over 80,000 people come out to celebrate! Latin Food and drinks, parades and parties it is an event that the whole family can enjoy and the best part is its free to attend!

    What is the history of the Liverpool Brazilica Festival?

    The Brazilica Festival has been held annually in Liverpool every year since July 2008. It was created by the Liverpool Carnival Company. Back in Liverpool was given the title of European Capital of Culture and a Rio-style Carnival Parade was organised to honour the title! The parade was such a success that it was continued.

    How do they celebrate the Liverpool Brazilica Festival?

    The UK’s only samba carnival, Brazilica Festival returns to Liverpool this week to celebrate all things Brazilian! The festival consists of a week-long celebration of Brazilian culture including art, music, film, food and dance events that take place at indoor venues across the city.

    A large variety of fringe events will take place like live music, club nights, film programme, exhibitions, workshops and the election for the Carnival Queen. A new addition to the programme is the addition of a Carnival King who will be crowned along with the Queen.

    All this leads up to the highlight of the festival a carnival street party and samba carnival parade. The carnival culminates on Saturday with a main stage erected in the city with lots of bands and dance performances throughout the day and into the night. There is also an excellent Brazilian Food Market and caipirinha bar!

    The Liverpool Samba Parade is truly the highlight of the celebration and visitors turn up in the thousands to witness the spectacle. Crowds in excess of 35,000 are expected to turn up this year. Over 19 bands from all over the UK and Europe will take part in this years Samba Parade.

    The parade begins from Abercromby Square and makes its way along Hope Street, Hardman Street, Bold Street and then onto Church Street, before finishing in Williamson Square. Over 800 performers take part in the night time carnival parade through the city centre with glittering costumes, floats and the irresistible sounds of samba.

    Throughout the day, bands perform on the city centre mainstage and in the Brazilian marketplace you can sample food and drink from across the country.

    The Brazilica fringe festival showcases films, exhibitions, workshops and performances in the run up to the main carnival day.

    Every year one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the carnival is the Liverpool’s International Samba Carnival Music Festival. The music festival will take place in the Fan Park located in Chavasse Park in Liverpool ONE. The event will begin at 1pm on Friday 12th July and continue across the weekend.

    The Liverpool International Samba Carnival Music Festival line-up includes:

    • ABC Dance; Wirral School of Samba; Baque de Axe and Baque de Ogum; Unidos do Ritmo with percussionists and dancers from Leeds, Batala Mersey; Arco Iris; Beat Life; Cork City Samba; Liverpool Samba School; Sambafriq; Samba Funk Factory;Karamba; Huddersfield and Brighton; Katumba; Paraiso; Manchester School of Samba; Oba!tuQ; Oya Batucada; Samba Espirito; and Worldwide Samba drummers and Preston dancers.

    If you are coming from afar then the John Lennon Airport is only 7 miles from the city centre of Liverpool, it is the major international gateway to the entire Liverpool City Region. There are also frequent buses and trains that take around 2.5 hours from London.
