Welcome to Martinique
Martinique is located in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, which is an overseas region of France. This French Island is a mountainous stunner, one look and it’s easy to see why people love Martinique. It’s volcanic in origin with the very much alive and still-smouldering Mont Pelee. A volcano that a hundred years ago in 1902 wiped out the former capital of St-Pierre.
Martinique is a very French Island, its incredible cosmopolitan and sophisticated. You can stroll around the bustling port capital, Fort-de-France or enjoy more seclusion and explore Martinique’s numerous different landscapes and atmospheres. From the mountainous rain forest North area of the island right town to its stunning bays and gorgeous beaches.
Carnival in Martinique is unique, it has a distinctly European flavour and takes place before the onset of Lent. During carnival the whole island of Martinique comes to a halt and everyone on the island gets swept up in the celebrations. Carnival on the island is filled with bright colours, street parades, costume’s, parties, non-stop music, traditional carnival characters and lots and lots of fun!
