    The Baltimore Washington One Carnival has been held for around 40 years. The carnival is organised by the Caribbean American Carnival Association of Baltimore in conjunction with the DC Caribbean Carnival Committee.

    Baltimore Washington One Carnival delights all of the senses! It is all about embracing traditional Caribbean cuisine, dance and music performances. There carnival will be filled with colorful costumes, funky music, delicious food and incredible arts and crafts. The carnival is fun for the whole family!

    The Baltimore Washington One Carnival kicks off on the Saturday with a Caribbean Mas Parade which will wind its way through the streets of Baltimore. The parade cultivates with a Caribbean festival inside Clifton Park. This festival continues at Clifton Park on the Sunday as well.

    The Carnival will be filled with the tastes, sights and sounds of the Caribbean. There will be lots of colorful costumes, dancing, music and so much more. The Caribbean Festival after the parade is a family-friend event which will have activities for the whole family and is free to attend.

    What is Playing Mas?

    When it comes to celebrating Caribbean Carnival you can either just be a spectator or you can join in the parades! When you want to join in it is called playing mas. For those not familiar with Caribbean Carnival, to play mas you have to join a masquerade band. 

     You cannot just show up in a beautiful home-made costume and join the parade. You must select a mas band that you want to be part of, contact them, purchase their costumes, or t-shirts and dance through the streets with your chosen band.     The Baltimore Washington One Carnival Mas Parade that transforms the streets of Baltimore into a lively, colorful and chaotic celebration. The parade runs for 1 ¼-mile and will see a stream of Mas Bands accompanied by sound systems or music bands perform through the streets. You can expect to hear a lot of Caribbean tunes like reggae, soca or calypso music being played.

    You will see Local Steel pan bands performing, moko jumbies which are dancing stilt walkers, the mud mas revelers who smear themselves with mud, and the paint n powder mas bands who all partake in the parade.

    But this is more than just a parade, this is also a competition and the mas bands are all being judged on their creativity, performance, energy, costume design, and participation of their masquerades. The event is free for all spectators.

    • Parade Begins: Ellerslie Ave & E 33rd St, Baltimore MD 21218
    • Parade Ends: Clifton Park, 2803 St. Lo Drive, Baltimore MD 21213

    The Baltimore Washington One Carnival Mas Parade begins in the Waverly neighborhood of Baltimore on 33rd Street, and will wind its way along The Alameda. After it will continue on to Clifton Park via St. Lo Drive.

    If you are coming from close by you are able to catch the commuter MARC train or the Amtrak train. Baltimore has great public transport options to get you around the city. You can also take the Greyhound or Bolt Bus.

    If you are coming from further away you can fly to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, which is the primary international airport serving Baltimore, Maryland. It is just one of three major airports serving the Baltimore–Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
